General Board Members

The Melbourne Women in Film Festival is currently seeking Volunteer General Board Members to support the organisation’s governance and compliance as a registered charity, using the lens of their respective experiences. These roles are critical to continuing the festival’s mission as a platform for women and gender diverse filmmakers.

As a General Board Member, your role includes:

  • Attending every board meeting (approximately six to seven annually).

  • Actively participating in board discussions in a collaborative way, bringing ideas and insights based on your area of knowledge.

  • Supporting risk mitigation, governance, and financial/budgetary advice.

  • Actively supporting the organisation’s strategic goals, including festival sustainability, industry influence and audience growth.  

  • Advocating for organisational support in your relevant industry.  

  • Partaking in board working groups as required

We are currently seeking board members with the following knowledge and skill areas:

  • Human Resources / People & Culture

  • Philanthropy

  • Screen Industry

  • Arts & Cultural Industries

The skills you will have include:

  • Board and not-for-profit/charity experience (preferred)

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment

This role will be subject to a vote at the AGM later in the year for a two-year Board position. Board members are expected to attend meetings in-person or on Zoom (approximately six to seven annually).

Next Steps

  • 29th June to 10th July: Applications will be reviewed  

  • 13th July to 22nd July: Shortlisted applicants will be invited to meet with current board members in-person or online to talk through their reasons for wanting to join the board and to learn more about the organisation.  

  • 24th July: All applicants will be notified regarding the outcome. The successful applicants will begin onboarding the following week.
