Women and gender diverse practitioners make up only a small proportion of the screen productions workforce in Australian and overseas industries. While we sometimes (albeit too rarely) hear of works from women and gender diverse writers, directors or producers, we hear even less about these filmmakers working in the creative technical areas of screen production in roles such as editors, cinematographers or sound designers.

MWFF exhibits work from collaborative teams of women and gender diverse practitioners working in all facets of screen production to help redress this gender imbalance. The festival also seeks to engage diverse groups of women and gender diverse people in its programming team and throughout the various levels of its organisation.

Since launching in 2017, MWFF has expanded its program across five days to include feature and short screenings, panel discussions, workshops, education programs, a critics lab, and other industry events.

    • Creating dynamic copy, graphic designed materials and video content that promotes audience interaction, increased visitation to website and social media platforms, and stimulates ticket sales.

    • Interviewing festival talent and developing social media short-form video interviews.

    • Working collaboratively with the festival team, publicist and graphic designer, and sometimes with photographers and videographers.

    • Researching and reporting on audience demographics and engagement to the Festival Director.

    • Attending festival events for the purposes of creating social media content, including shooting and posting behind the scenes footage in the lead up and during the festival.

    What we ask
